I really was hoping the best for this. I read the original trilogy by Stieg Larsson and really enjoyed it and enjoyed the two versions of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for different reasons. And I still haven’t gotten enough of Claire Foy yet. Her work in The Crown still sticks with me and I want to see more of her.
But while The Girl in the Spider’s Web shows off her range and broadens her skill set onscreen, the movie is just not equal to her star power. While it delivers good action sequences and some very interesting usage of hacking skills in an espionage-type setting, the story wasn’t enough to catch me.

Even bringing in a younger Mikael Blomqvist (Sverrir Gudnason) was a rather irrelevant move since he barely does anything significant for the film and provides an awkward and underdeveloped point of sexual tension for Foy’s Lisbeth Salander.
Maybe it will make enough to warrant a sequel and. hopefully, they’ll do better on the second round and go back to the essence of Lisbeth Salander, who works better with smaller, more intimate stories, and not try to make her into some super spy.
