I love everything about Waitress. I love Sara Bareilles. I love the movie it was based on. I love the themes of women empowerment and navigating the tricky realm of infidelity, abuse, disillusionment, and all the other gray areas in the messy moments of life in a small town.
And the Philippine production with Joanna Ampil. Bituin Escalante, and Maronne Cruz is just superb. Absolutely superb.

It was funny, so funny that I didn’t realize that the heavier emotions were going to hit me so hard at the second act. It was so deceptively light and enjoyable.
Not that heavy emotions aren’t enjoyable too. It was just that I wasn’t sure if it was going to get there when everything was just so pleasant. It’s amazing writing, really. Very enjoyable.
They have two more weekends, starting tonight, and I really hope you get to see it if you can. It’s a wonderful musical with fantastic performances. Please catch it.
