‘The Punisher’ saves the Marvel Television Universe (InterAksyon)

Jon Bernthal is amazing in The Punisher. His performance really drives the show. We all knew that from season 2 of Daredevil, especially when his storyline was more intriguing than the Elektra storyline, which felt like what the show was really focusing on and Frank Castle was just the counterpoint.

While my brother loved the show, I was frustrated by the pacing from episodes 3 to halfway of 9. It starts off extremely explosive on its first two episodes and then sizzles and burns out halfway through the season. But it’s all redeemed by it’s salvo of last four episodes.

Jon Bernthal is the Punisher

But I’ll be honest. I was really waiting for all the scenes of Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and, hopefully, would see Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. Claire never shows up (and it would be difficult for her character to do so since she would not be morally inclined to side with The Punisher in any way) but Deborah Ann Woll does not disappoint at all.

    • I agree. Daredevil season 1 and Jessica Jones is way better than Punisher. And Daredevil 2was
only as good until the Punisher storyline ended.

But ever since then, the other shows floundered. Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders didn’t have that magic.

Punisher does, though not as great as DD or JJ but still in that ballpark.

That’s what I meant by my title.

      • Cage started out poorly, but it grew on you as it went. The Punished flowed in the opposite direction. It started with potential but by the end I had practically lost interest. Personally I would put it below everything else except Iron Fist.

        • Really? I felt Luke Cage started to become uninteresting after Copperhead disappeared.

And as I said in my review, the last five episodes of Punisher made up for the slog in the middle. Especially since everything in those dragging episodes were mined for their emotional content.
