This is my second all-time favourite ABBA song. And it is a cover by Portishead. This is all manners of awesome. I love how Portishead really got into the message of the lyrics and re-positioned the music to fit the meaning of the lyrics.
I really, really love this song and this version.
And Beth Gibbons is a sort of master of restraint and delivery. She never lets it rip. It’s a wonderful, wonderful version full of nuance and meaning. I could listen to this all day. I cannot wait for the new Portishead album.
This is not a cover. This is a reinterpretation.
