Terra Incognita

This unfamiliar landscape is teeming

with the lushness of life

and a verdant glow nurtured

by a tender and gentle love.

The mountains and valleys

open themselves up to me, spread

its arms open in the promise

of a warm embrace

and its rivers and streams and lakes

offer its soothing waters

to quench my thirst.

I was taught to fear

Terra Incognita

but the only dragon here is I;

mighty wings, massive claws,

scales, fangs, and a breath of fire.

I will tread carefully here.

I have not come to conquer

but to find a soft clearing,

maybe a canopy of tree branches,

or a cave, dry and warm,

and finally take rest.
