I love, love, love The Amazing Spider-Man 2! I really do. I found myself at the edge of my seat the whole time and just enjoying the show. I found it thrilling and intense and funny and exciting and, even heartbreaking. It was everything I wanted a comic book movie to be. The special effects were spectacular and the action sequences were so well-thought out and well-executed. I’m just so impressed.
Director Marc Webb is incredible. I knew he was a special kind of director from how well he told the story of 500 Days of Summer. The guy really knows his stuff and what he is doing but he went far beyond my expectations with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It’s just so good. I’m super impressed with him.
And Dane DeHaan, whom I’ve seen in Chronicle and Lawless (I didn’t even remember he was in Lawless because he just totally disappeared into his character and I couldn’t really notice anyone else but Tom Hardy) but he just really blew me away as Harry Osborn. He’s so good and he’s going to be a really strong presence in Hollywood. I’m watching out for him in the future.
But, really, all my love goes to Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. They are so good and they made Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy so real and they made their love so real; and, yes, there are people who will say “but they really are in love in real life” but that doesn’t always translate so effectively on screen. And Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were not being Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, they were totally and completely Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy in the movie and the complexities of their characters were made believable and it drove the story forward. I’m just so in awe with these two young actors. They are so good. They are everything. Really.
Andrew Garfield is love. Emma Stone is love. I love ’em both. They make everything work. These two are everything.
I am so happy for this movie. I can’t wait to watch it again and again. It’s just so good. And it’ll be easy because that’s all that’s showing in the cinemas right now. There are no other movies in any cinema near me but The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And that’s perfectly fine with me.
