To help boost local tourism, Viva Manila is putting together a monthly event called Pasyal Sunday and, for the month of March, they have decided to hold it in March 16 with the theme “Speak Out” and a good friend, poet, and performance artist Daniel Darwin invited me to read my poems in the poetry reading that will be held on that day.
I’m supposed to prepare three or four poems. One or two for the first set and, if there are not that many volunteers for the open mic, to have another one or two poems we could read for the second set.
I haven’t read my poetry out in a long time; but it’s an important thing for me to come out there and give an audible voice to some of my work. I think that I would have to read poems from Remnants, the book of poems that I will be publishing soon. They need to come out and they need to be given a voice.
This is a fitting way to really release my work and to prepare them for the eventual publication. I’m nervous and scared but this is the right thing to do.
I don’t know exactly what time I will be able to read; but if you are in the area and you want to be part of a different experience in the city, I would like to suggest giving Pasyal Sunday a try. There will be bazaars and different activities; and of course, the poetry reading.
Hope to see you there.
