Twitter Poems

So I started writing some poems on my Twitter account. I thought it was a good way to practice brevity and precision. I only have that many characters to be able to concretise a metaphor, evoke an emotion, and leave a resonance or a semblance of meaning. It’s tough work and it is training me to go straight for the jugular.

I am quite enjoying the exercise and I kinda like the things that I come up with, sometimes. It’s a totally new way to keep myself sharp and on point. It’s giving me a whole new way of looking at how to structure the poems and it’s a really, really good way of being more creative with language.

Here are some of them:

December 16, 2013

Trees, bird song, sunlight

A light drizzle, a cool breeze —

He’s all that’s missing here.

December 14, 2013

Sunlight on my face

Warm, like an old friend

Saying, “Come here more often.”

November 3, 2013

Our words traverse thousands of miles

On electric highways;

But bullied by time zones.
