ghost lights

the night is pregnant with stars

a vast darkness littered with sparkling light

and the full moon is an eye

watching you

but all the moon does is watch

and not all stars are still there

some stars are but ghost lights

beckoning you

calling

whether you are on a field

covered in flowers,

or a mountain top

with breeze blowing against your face

or on the rooftop of a building

swallowed by the noise of the city

you are alone

staring skyward

beguiled by the brilliance

calling out to you

to be a part of the night’s firmament

once must not fear

their own capacity for luminance

and to stare at the darkness

and see not the enemy

what you must see is

desire
