If you happen to like movies, and you are in the country from September 11 to 17, then please come to an SM Cinema and watch the films that will be screening on this year’s Sineng Pambansa. This is a National Film Festival that is sponsored by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP); and this year, it is titled All Masters Edition.
Eleven directors, ten films, ten movies about the Philippines by veteran Filipino filmmakers, who were asked by the FDCP to produce a film in their home province.
Sonata, directed by Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes and starring Cherie Gil is a movie set in Negros Occidental and I am very proud of this film for many, many reasons. One of them being that I wrote it. It has large themes but in the writing and in the shooting of the film, it had become personal as people who have begun to watch it gave their readings and interpretations of it and I began to see so many shades of my life and my dad’s life reflected in the work. I think it’s very strong; if I am allowed to say so, and I would be very honoured if you can see it.
Please like the Facebook page of Sonata as we will be posting as many articles, reviews, and photos of the screenings and behind the scenes as we get them.
I am hoping the Sineng Pambansa will be as well attended as the Cinemalaya was this year and that the films are as loved and as appreciated as the Cinemalaya entries were of this year. We have giants in the industry working on some passion projects like Maryo J. de los Reyes, Mel Chionglo, Joel Lamangan, Joey Reyes, Chito Rono, and of course, Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes.
Please watch as many films as you can, especially Sonata. It would mean so much to me.
Thank you and see you at the SM Cinemas.
