Two days ago, I got a text from my doctor, Dr. Kate. She told me that my lab work from my most recent check up has come in and she began with: “Are you ready for your lab results?”
She proceeded to tell me about my cholesterol levels (which are dismal, as usual) and that my sugar levels are normal and my liver is fine (though my creatinine levels are a little elevated).
But the most important part was that she told me my CD4 count had risen to 361 from 249. I jumped by about a hundred points. I’m so stoked. I’m getting stronger. I’m taking care of myself. My immune system is fighting and going strong. The meds are working. I’m fine.
361. Those three numbers just mean the whole world to me. Considering the fact that I was at 32 at some point in 2010, I’m up to 361. I’m getting stronger. I’ve got a fighting chance.
I’m beating this. I’m stronger. I’m going to be okay.
