Man of Steel: An Epic Beginning

I just saw Man of Steel yesterday on IMAX 3D and despite my original fears, I was completely and totally blown away. I enjoyed it so much that I went and watched the film with my two friends again today, this time on a 2D screening and, even if it was my second time to see it, I still loved it. Man of Steel is everything I could have wanted and more. I never even liked Superman before. I never understood him and he never appealed to me as a superhero but this movie changed all of that. This movie made Superman make sense to me.

You can read my review of the film here: Man of Steel: An Epic Beginning. I called it an epic beginning because, for me, this is where it truly begins for Superman. This is his story and this is the one we will be bringing with us to the cinema. I love Christopher Reeves as Superman but he was restricted so much by the era in which he made his films. Brandon Routh was a good actor and did a good job as Superman but he was attached to a horrible script. This. This is the ultimate Superman movie. Henry Cavill is Superman.

Even on the second viewing, it was immeasurably good, and I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. Henry Cavill is just gorgeous and completely and totally makes the man from Kansas and Krypton believable. I’ve always been a huge fan of Amy Adams and knew she’d be a perfect fit for Lois Lane and she was. I had a few caveats but they are so few and are completely outweighed by how good the film is that I won’t even get to the nitty-gritty details.

Zack Snyder outdid himself and elevated himself to a serious powerhouse director. I knew he was good; but I didn’t know he had it in him. It was everything. Christopher Nolan has not yet disappointed — well, maybe for the Dark Knight Rises, but I still enjoyed it despite my many misgivings about it — and Nolan truly is divine.

I’m actually very tempted to watch the film again because I really, really, really enjoyed it. I hope you do too. Watch it, in IMAX 3D, if possible. Because it is so worth it.
